The station facade displays an illuminated MARTA sign above the main entrance, and a train is visible on the elevated tracks behind it. The design features open walkways, green‑tiled accent walls, new faregates, and bike racks.
Current Status: 60% design is scheduled for completion in 2027. Construction expected to begin in 2028.
Overview
MARTA’s Bankhead Station platform expansion, in partnership with the City of Atlanta through the More MARTA program, will allow full-length trains on the Green Line, opening the door to more frequent service and the flexibility to move trains across lines. Bankhead is the only station in the system limited to two-car trains because of its current platform size. The project will extend the platform to accommodate MARTA’s standard eight-car trains, increasing service and accessibility while improving connectivity with the surrounding community.
Project Features
- Extension of the existing platform to accommodate eight rail cars rather than the current two rail cars
- Public pedestrian plaza with enhanced entrances and exits for customers, pedestrians and motorists
- New platform canopy
- New elevator and escalator
- Bus loop relocation and expansion to enhance customer safety and improve traffic flow
- Modernize existing station facilities
