MARTA’s better Breeze fare payment system is live!

Breeze is the fast, flexible, secure way to ride MARTA and its participating regional transit services with buying options that fit your needs.

Here are the ways you can pay your fare with the new system:

  1. Tap a physical bank card.
  2. Tap a mobile wallet (with bank card).
  3. NEW! Tap a mobile wallet (with virtual Breeze card).
  4. Tap a physical Breeze card or ticket.
  5. Pay with cash.

1. Tap a Bank Card (physical)

Riders can now skip the ticket vending machine and tap their contactless-enabled debit or credit card directly at rail station faregates and bus validators.

2. Tap a Mobile Wallet (with bank card)

Riders can also pay with their debit or credit card that is linked inside their mobile wallet on their smartphone or smartwatch. Skip the ticket vending machines and pay directly at rail station faregates and the validators on buses.

Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallets are accepted.

4. Tap a Breeze Card or Ticket (physical)

The plastic Breeze card is a reloadable, long-term use transit card that allows riders to load various fare products — including multi-ride packages. The Breeze card costs $2.00 in addition to the fare.

Single-use paper Breeze tickets expire 90 days from purchase and are not reloadable. The ticket costs $1.00 in addition to the fare.

Purchase the new orange Breeze card or ticket and fare at:

  • New Breeze vending machines  Up to five (5) Breeze cards can be purchased in one transaction.
    • Up to ten (10) Breeze tickets can be purchased in one transaction.
    • MARTA and regional partners’ Ride Stores
  • Online at the new breezecard.com
    • Once you register and sign into your account, follow the prompts to purchase a card.
    • Breeze cards can take a week to arrive so if you have immediate travel plans, purchase in-person.

5. Pay with Cash

Cash is accepted at ticket vending machines and Ride Stores to purchase Breeze cards or tickets. Bus riders can also pay with cash on buses, but exact change is required and fare cannot be loaded onto Breeze cards on buses. Cash fare is one-way only and does not include transfers.

  • Purchase fare to load onto your physical Breeze card
  • Register and manage your physical Breeze card

Balance Transfers

MARTA will accommodate balance transfers from old Breeze cards and the Breeze Mobile 2.0 app to new Breeze accounts May 5 through October 30. Before beginning the transfer process, customers must have a new, orange Breeze card or new, black Reduced Fare or Mobility card.

Once customers have their new Breeze card, they should follow the steps below to ensure any remaining balance on their old Breeze card or Breeze Mobile 2.0 account is transferred to their new Breeze account.

  1. Go to breezecard.com and select “Sign in” or “Register.”
  2. After signing in, link your NEW Breeze card. You will receive an email notification confirming the linking of the card to your account.
  3. Select “Transfer legacy card balance/passes.”
  4. Enter your old Breeze card number (silver card) or old Breeze Mobile 2.0 account email.
  5. Verify the transfer.

MARTA Fare Policy Remains the Same

  • Fare is $2.50 one-way with four free transfers allowed in a three-hour period.
  • Each customer needs their own form of payment. Do not “pass back” a Breeze card or bank card for others to use. If traveling with children or an individual without their own form of payment, you may purchase fare at any new touchscreen ticket vending machine. Note that multiple cards may now be purchased in one transaction at ticket vending machines. You may also pay for a companion using a different bank card than the one you used when tapping directly on the faregate or validator.
  • You must use the exact same payment method when transferring from bus to bus and bus to rail to ensure you are not charged additional fare. For example, if you tap your debit card on the bus, tap the same debit card at the faregate when transferring to rail.
  • Even if your bank card and mobile wallet are linked to the same bank account, they are treated as different payment methods by the system.

Riding MARTA’s Transit Partner Systems

ATL Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, Ride Gwinnett:

  • Tap a bank card, mobile wallet, physical or virtual Breeze card on the orange bus validator. New Breeze cards or tickets are available for purchase at Ride Stores for MARTA, ATL Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, and Ride Gwinnett.
  • When transferring between MARTA and a partner transit system, you must use the same payment method when beginning your trip and transferring so you are not charged additional fare.
  • For example, if you use your debit card to board an Xpress, CobbLinc, Connect Douglas, or Ride Gwinnett bus, you must use the same debit card when transferring to MARTA.

Even if your bank card and mobile wallet are linked to the same bank account, they are treated as different payment methods by the system. Use exactly the same payment method when transferring.
